Eloped Riders of Windcliff

The background stories behind the criation of most military regiments in human history  are usually tales of hatred and war. However, that's not quite the case for the Eloped Riders of Windcliff. These old cavalry regiments' background story is surprisingly one of love and romance, which inspires them up to this very day to keep on fighting with all their hearts.

Several centuries ago, the Grand Chieftess of the United Clans of Windcliff, Lady Lauren Whitemane, decided to join the war efforts against the foreigner male invaders that were massacring the amazon people in the South. Under the command of her precious daughter, Gwendoline Silvermane, she assembled and sent 1.000 amazon riders from the clans of Windcliff to aid the recently created Theravalley Milita at the nearby mountainous valleys.

The militia forces were already beginning to be overwhelmed by the foreigner invaders' superior numbers, when the mighty Riders of Windcliff arrived and completely shifted the tides of the battles on the Amazon's favour. With well-placed devastating cavalry charges on the enemy flanks, Lady Gwendoline led her riders to crush the enemy morale, fighting side by side with the heroic lowborn refugees of Theravalley's Militia. Especially the highly charismatic and awe-inspiring Commander Thalia Therasdotter herself.

At first, all that was great news that made the Grand Chieftess of the Clans of Windcliff very proud of her noble daughter, until other not-so-satisfactory news began to reach her ears. What she did not expect was that, against all the proper noble etiquette and customs, the young Lady Gwendoline would end up absolutely falling in love for the lowborn commander of the Theravalley Militia. Gwen and Thalia started to make out passionately right in front of the rest of their armies after every major victory they achieved together, shocking the ears of the nobility of Windcliff just as much as highly motivating the common soldiers' morale with their beautiful forbiden love.

Grand Chieftess Lauren got so pissed off to hear it all that she explicitly ordered her daughter and all the Windcliff Riders to immediately withdraw from the war effort. But Lady Gwendoline simply outright refused to do so. She was betrothed to another highborn woman who she never even knew too well, so instead of returning home to her authoritarian mother and get legitimately married to a random noble she did not love, Gwendoline Silvermane stood against her mother's orders and eloped with her beloved Thalia.

Thalia and Gwen got married on a battlefield, right after a crushing victory, going against everyone else's approval. Their love was so intense and ardent that the entire cavalry regiments under Gwendoline's direct control refused to go back to Windcliff as well, exiling themselves in Theravalley, along with the eloped noble bride.

As such, the still untamed mountainous valleys of Theravalley became the brand new home of nearly a thousand expatriate Windcliff Riders, who settled right in the center of it, in a region that would later become known as the Eloped Meadows. Ironically enough, the low-born Thalia Therasdotter of Theravalley ended up taking full control of Theravalley, being knighted and named duchess of it for her valiant heroism during the war that saved Arandolia from the verge of anihilation. This means that the honourable commander of humble origins who eloped with the high-born girl became just as powerful, if not even more, than her utterly disgusted mother-in-law, making Gwen the happiest wife in the planet in the process.

As for the repatriated cavalry regiments that since then became known as the Eloped Riders of Windcliff, they got quite lucky as well. Not only Theravalley became an immensely prosperous region under Thalia and Gwen's fair rule, but they also got small plots of land and the title of Dames for themselves as a gift for their undying loyalty to Lady Gwendoline. The Windcliff Stallions therefore started to be bred in Theravalley's countryside, originating a local horse breed of their own: the Theravalley Silvermane Warhorses. The descendants of the repatriated riders kept their mothers' strong equestrian traditions too, thus forwarding the development of their cavalry regiments' might.

Now they have access to even better weapons and armour from the forges of the nearby city of Riesenberg, while the story of the birth of their "eloped" cavalry regiments is a huge inspiration to everyone who hears it.
