Lauren Whitemane

Coat of Arms:

Lady Lauren Whitemane was born the youngest daughter of 16 children within the ruling family of the Whitemane Clan of Windcliff. She would be the 16th woman in the long line of succession to the title of Clan Chieftess, and that not even taking into account all of her countless nieces standing on her way to ruling over her own clan. But of all the 16 Whitemane daughters, Lauren was the most beautiful, intelligent ...and ambitious. In fact, she was the most gorgeous woman of the entire Northern Steppes of Arandolia, in such a way that many amazon suitors preferred her to any of her sisters, who'd be much more likely to be Chieftess one day. As such, still as a teen, Lady Lauren began to use her stunning beauty to seduce her way around, obtaining great influence over everyone who could aid her in obtaining the one thing she desired the most: power.

And the girl was a prodigy at that! With only 12 years old, she began studying to become the youngest emissary her Clan ever had. With 16 years old, she already started working abroad as a diplomat for her mother, obtaining several alliances and favorable agreements in the name of the Whitemane Clan (and also in her very own name in secrecy). With 18, she had enough renown to be named her clan's diplomatic representative at the neighboring Blackmane Clan, not only managing to forge an actual military alliance with the strongest Clan of Windcliff (which was an enemy of the Whitemanes not too long ago), but also using her beauty to seduce and steal the heart of the legendary Blackmane leader, Chieftess Amelia Blackmane I.

Chieftess Amelia fell in love so hard for Lauren that she divorced from a happy wedding of over 80 years, only to arrange a new marriage with her new 18 years-old lover, who she so desperately urged for. Lauren became the First Lady of Clan with the most powerful armies of the Northern Steppes, holding the mightiest Clan Chieftess of Windcliff within the palm of her hands and using her forces to do whatever she wanted.

As a wedding gift, Lauren demanded her own mother back in the Whitemane Clan to disinherit all her sisters so to make herself the sole new heir of her family's lands, and when Lauren's mother outright refused to do such a dishonourable thing, Lauren persuaded the Blackmane Clan to declare war and press her claim, using her wife's unstoppable Blackmane Horsewomen to assure her certain victory.

Through the sheer force of arms, Lauren invaded her own Clan, took the Whitemane lands and exiled her sisters and her own mother from the Windcliff Steppes, immediately declaring herself the new Whitemane Clan Chieftess. Now she controlled the two strongest Clans of Windcliff, one in her own hands, and the other at her bewitched wife's hands. It was a mere matter of time before she began to use her massive power and influence to make the other clans bow to her feet, crushing any opposition as she single-handedly unified this once thoroughly fragmented region.

However, Lauren cares a lot about her image. She always posed as a reasonable and honourable woman, carefully disguising her second intentions and greedy ambitions under a thin veil of lies and deception. She dethroned and exiled her rivals just to remove them from their way, treating the Steppes as a big chessboard and the clans as her pawns. Every egocentric action she ever did was seen by everyone else as something righteous and well deserved thanks to how she announced it, bringing acclamation and aproval out of what many would otherwise see as borderlining tyranny.

Actually, Lady Lauren did such an awesome work in posing herself as a liberator instead of a tyrant, that she conquered all the seven corners of Windcliff without spilling too much blood in the prossess, uniting the entire Northern Steppes under the guise of a "Confederation of Clans with equal rights". She stablished and enforced a seemingly enlightened government, full of new laws and  traditions that indeed brought a lot of progress and benefits to Windcliff's population as a whole, but deep down there things aren't exactly what they seem to be.

Windcliff has never been so peaceful. For the first time in history, the Clans trade and help each others instead of constantly fighting amongst themselves, while people thrive on the cold harsh local climate. However, the "election" of the Grand Chieftess to rule above all clans is all rigged up from the very start of it all. Every 10 years, the Clan Chieftesses gather together in the Capital of Reitersbaum to vote, and Lady Lauren wins every single election by complete unanimity. She simply has every other clan so intrinsically dependant of her support that, either through blackmail, bribery or even threats, she assures no one ever opposes her righteous words.

Any woman to rise and speak against Lady Lauren within the borders of Windcliff is soon found guilty of some random severe crimes, joining the so many other exiled amazons that once opposed the mighty Grand Chieftess. Curiously enough, none of those exilees are heard of ever again... And neither is heard a thing about their families and supporters. After all, if Lady Lauren fought her own mother and sisters to attain power over her own Clan, one can only imagine what she can do to anyone else standing in the way of what she wants.
