Southern Half-bred Warhorses

The Demetrian Purebred Warhorses and the Persephonian Albino Steeds are some of the best mounts an amazon can ever ride to battle! However, they are also expensive as fuck, which means only really rich aristocrats from the high arandolian nobility are actually able to afford them.

The lower-ranking nobles, such as newly knighted dames or half-blood bastartds of the nobility, would never be able to gather enough money to buy such an expensive steed in the very beginning of their military careers. So the horse breeders of Adlerfurt devised a clever way of attending this growing demand for more affordable warhorses, by simply using their own Purebred Demetrian and Persephonian Stallions to breed ordinary broodmares rented from the local countryside peasantry.

The result of such breeding is what they call a Southern Half-bred Horse, which is far superior to any ordinary horse like the mares who gave birth to them, but not quite as high-quality as the actual purebred Stallions who sired them. Such a mixed creature carries traits of both their parents and, just like an average amazon bastard with diluted noble-blood, they are too good for the lower classes, while also not good enough for the nobility.

Therefore, what better mount to be trained as the warhorses for those aforementioned noble bastards? They are in fact quite strong, fast, disciplined and resilient, well able to learn to charge, stomp and trample enemies, while also being way more affordable thanks to their half-bred blood. They are quite docile and also easy to ride, being perfect steeds for beginners and squires, while also very sought after by moderately wealthy members of the urban middle-classes amongst the amazons.

Moreover, the Southern Half-bred Steeds tend to be born carrying more than one colour thanks to their mixed blood, having beautiful tobiano, patched and spotted coats and manes. They are the favorite of those who like spotted horses, so there are even a few rich aristocrats who buy them just to add more diversity to their personal stables. In the end, what matters is that they can be just as good of a mount as any purebred if they're trained and treated right, so why would a clever amazon spend so much more on purebreds when half-breds are so much cheaper?
