Battlefield Role: Medium-Range Infantry

Vessel: Small and simple whaling boats.

Weapons: A set of whaling harpoons and a butcher cleaver.

Outfit: No actual armour, just plain clothes and sandals.

Skill level: Experienced in Harpoon throwing and not bad in melee.

Affiliation: Whaler's Bay

Doctrine: Amphitrite's Way of the Seafarer

Strengths: Whaling harpoons can jam onto armour and shields, getting stuck and immobilizing the unfortunate target. If the foe is unarmoured, a whaler is even more effective and quite lethal.

Weaknesses: As they are literal whale hunters, they usually dislike to wear armour because of how useless it is against whales.

Whalers

The amazons known as "the Whalers" are in fact the inhabitants of one of the southern regions of Arandolia, which was named after themselves: Whaler's Bay. Like the name already implies, many of them are actual whale hunters who venture the southern seas in search of the biggest and fiercest sea monsters they can find, eager for their ridiculously valuable hide and meat, risking their own necks on the dangerous persuit of wealth, glory and reknown.

As such, many of them bear nasty scars from their dangerous whaling lives. They might not be professional warriors, but they know very well how to fight and kill giant terrifying creatures, and that makes them quite bold and ferocious when fighting against humans just as well.

Their heavy whaling harpoons can be hurled as far as a javelin can, and as they are powerful enough to pierce right through thick whale hide, they can very well penetrate armour, getting jammed on the metal and completely destabilizing the poor foe. Unless, of course, the enemy isn't wearing heavy armour, in which case the poor bastard is as god as dead.

As for close quarters, Whalers aren't the best in melee combat. They simply do not have the formal training necessary to proficiently strike and parry with a melee weapon, but they do carry rather fearsome cleavers which they use to butcher whale meat, being rather dangerous in close encounters. They will usually run and keep hurling their deadly harpoons till they run out of projectiles, and only then they shall engage in a hand-to-hand confrontation.

But do not think their morale and resolve to fight is weak just because they are no professional warriors. They hunt freaking sea monsters as a daily chore to put food on their dining tables, so war is nothing to make any of those hardened women tremble. They are bold to the point of recklessness, making them one of the last units to ever run away from a fight!
