Salacian Warrior Caste

The Salacian Generals see their armies not so much as a group of human beings, but more like an asset in which they invest with the clear intention of enforcing their own power upon the others.

As such, the most valuable "military asset" on their armies are, without any doubt, their high-skilled and heavily-armoured Salacian Heavy Infantry regiments. Those full-time soldiers are a rather fierce, large and tough caste of women, recruited directly from the relatively priviledged warrior middle classes of the City of Salacia itself, who are literaly bred and raised for war from within the very womb of their mothers.

This is not an understatement, as the Salacian Warrior Caste is in fact born from actual human husbandry. With the clear objective of creating a wide reserve of outstanding recruits for the Salacian barracks, "broodmare amazons" are hand-picked by the unscrupulous and greedy Salacian Council of Nobles for the sole purpose of mass reproduction. Only the strongest, tallest and healthiest "specimens" amongst this caste are chosen and then promoted to the breeding job, moved to a much better part of the city, where their task will be to simply produce one child after the other.

As such, the children of this Warrior Caste are raised by their own mothers only up to the age of 5 years old, when they are sent to the barracks to be evaluated. Suitable girls are immediately conscripted into the army or navy, while unfit girls are simply abandoned in an orphanage back into the poor districts of the city. Either way, the children who are born within the Salacian middle classes will most likely never see their parents again. The rejected ones will join the oppressed masses of unqualified workforce at the very bottom of the Salacian Society, while the strong and fit ones will be trained and drilled day and night for the next decade, only to become the very instrument that the local elite use to bestow their iron fist upon the rest of the population.

Those that become soldiers will grow up as hardened warrioresses, equipped with the best available gear and having their very sense of individuality taken away from themselves. Their standardized fancy uniforms and sturdy armour will assure the survivability of those quite expensive soldiers in any combat situation, but they won't be allowed to have any personal possessions of their own. Everything, from their boots to the golden ornaments on the hilt of their swords, is property of the City of Salacia. Even their bodies are property of Salacia, so instead of earning money, they earn high-quality food rations, comfortable living quarters and small luxuries directly from the state.

As their haircut is standardized too, most of them look so identical that sometimes it is quite hard to discern themselves. In a desperate attempt of attaning a minimum level of individuality aside from their names, many turn their own bodies into blank canvas for art through the use of tattoos. Tattoos those that are always hidden under their uniforms, but that are the last touch of humanity that a child raised in a barracks and deprived of any freedom can owe in the oppressive strictness of the Salacian Society.
