Herbalists

While the most important and populous city centers of Arandolia always have at least one formal medicine practitioner taking care of the locals' health, the most isolated amazon communities that usually live off the bounty of mother nature have little to no access to medicine, aside from the herbalists that use ancient celtic wisdom for gathering herbs and curing diseases.

None of those herbalists ever went to medical college though. Most of them barely know how ro read and write, but damn they know a lot about using roots, leaves, fungi and leeches to save lives!

By brewing strong-smelling elixirs, mixing up a wide variety of odd ingredients in thick ointments and applying blood-sucking leeches to putrid tissue, those healers are often able to use their ancient alternative medicine knowledge to fully heal anyone in need. However, their abilities and skills are limited, while they also heavily depend on having untouched wild biomes nearby from which to collect the ingredients they so direly need to perform their cures.

In many cases, actual graduated surgeons need to be called in to take over the patients in worst condition, but the herbalists can at least manage to keep the sick and the wounded alive till professional help comes by.

Herbalists also tend to be more widely available and ready to act as field medics in battlefields, as the life near the wilderness makes them tough and bolder than any usual medic from the big cities. Many generals employ them to work side by side with the rare battlefield surgeons tha exist out there, and together the formal and alternative forms of medicine are often able to save even more lives than alone!
