Battlefield Surgeons

Medics are present in every major and minor cities of Arandolia, always doing their very best to save other Amazons' lives from plague, wounds and any kind of illnesses. They are extremely well regarded and respected by society, because every woman of Arandolia have at least one close person whose life was saved by those blessed angels of mercy.

While most medics settle down on a personal clinic and remain stationary to take care of the local population of a city and its immediate surroundings, there are also those who prefer to roam the land as peddlers, providing their services and remedies for modest fees to the more isolated amazon communities.

There are also those who become enlightened as part-time priestesses in temples dedicated to the All-Mother Hera, while only the bravest and thoughest medics of all Arandolia go even further than all the others to bring medical treatment where it's most needed: the battlefield!

Those brave and thoroughly dedicated souls are proudly renowned as Battlefield Surgeons, and they are the ones responsible for minimizing any conflict's casualties to the very bare minimum possible. They are not very common though, as it takes much more than a common nurse or doctor to stop the bleeding from a gushing wound inflicted by a deep sword slash in the middle of a turmoiled war zone, dodging enemy arrows and fighting off enemy soldiers just to reach the poor fallen soldier before death gets her first. It takes a battle-hardened war veteran with a hell lot of guts and cold blood to endure all this pressure and stress, maintaining her hands steady as she sews up the exposed flesh, right after sterilizing the wound with strong alcohol and cauterizing it with either acid or a blazing piece of iron! All that done with little to no anesthetics, hearing the ear-shattering screams of pain and desperation of the poor bastard under the surgeon's scalpel, while so many countless others yell for help, but the field medics are hardly ever enough to tend to all of them.

Only the most skilled and resilient medicine practitioners can accomplish all that without going crazy, so the generals of Arandolia reward their Battlefield Surgeons very well, valuing them like no one else! After all, the more field surgeons an army has, the less casualties it will face, meaning more soldiers living to fight another day!
