Eagle-Islander Amazons

A.K.A.: "Eagleheads" "Children of Skadi"

Distinctive Characteristics: Predominantly blonde and bright-eyed, the amazons of Eagle Island are known to be relatively tall, with wide shoulders and great eye-sight.

Cultural Traits: There are two big things in Eagle Island: Archery and taming Birds of Prey. Locals either love and excel in at least one of those things, or live in misery as poultry farmers and fishers among their proud and arrogant kinswomen.

Eagle-Islanders are actually Eldarian Amazons who colonized an oddly bird-shaped island on the rigged Western Coast of Arandolia. Just like their "cousins", they are thoroughly Germanic in ethnicity and culture, worshiping the same Norse Pantheon Eldara has, though their main deity is Skadi, Godess of the Hunt and the Mountains, instead of the All-Mother Freya.

Many think the amazons of Eagle Island to be fierce isolationists, comparing them to the Arthemisian Amazons on the opposing side of the Arandolian Archipelago just because both races are very keen to the use of the Longbow. This is, however, a big misconception.

Yes, their home island is very isolated from the rest of the nation, but in their case it's not a matter of choice. Eagle-Islander Amazons are in fact remarkably outgoing and receptive to visitors who come to their territory, though geography itself makes it very unlikely anyone from far away will ever step on their shores, as the sea surrounding their island is rigged with jagged rocks that break hulls with ease, while the frequent storms make it really hard to maneuver most vessels.

Few are the merchants bold enough to reach their ports, and even fewer the travelers willing to go there. Specially when one takes into consideration the lack of sizeable urban centers, weak local economy and the mortal threat imposed by the many Edgelander Pirates who torment the southern shores of the island. Only their fellow germanic-amazon "cousins" from Eldara usually venture to their shores for trading, which means finding any non-blonde in their island is a rather hard endevour.

Yet there is great natural beauty to be found in Eagle Island, as well as a plenitude of exotic birds and some of the best hunting grounds in Arandolia. The locals brag a lot about being the best archers among all amazons, and despite their arrogance, they actually are. Their longbowmaidens are the best of the best, outmatching any other regional champions in both accuracy, reach and precision, which makes their bragging even more overbearing.
