Battlefield Role: Shock Cavalry

Steed: Southern Half-bred Warhorses.

Weapons: A cavalry lance, a battered old shield and a worn mace.

Outfit: Closable helmet and plate armour pieces over chain mail. Usually all second-hand stuff, but of good quality nonetheless.

Skill level: Proficient in equitation, and also in fighting on foot.

Affiliation: Adlerfurt, in the Demetrian Plains.

Doctrine: Bellona's Way of the Warmaiden

Strengths: High motivation and morale, thanks to the perspective of fame and glory at making a name for themselves on the battlefield.

Weaknesses: The blind need to prove themselves in combat makes them unruly to command and rather unwilling to retreat or fall back.

Adlerfurt Lancers

The Adlerfurt Lancers are low-ranking shock cavalry regiments, mainly composed of peripheral and cast-aside high-born amazon women. They usually are either the youngest daughters or the illegitimate bastards from the numerous noble families of Adlerfurt. Young girls who did not inherit any land or titles to their own names, or have somehow been outcast for some odd reason.

As such, these relatively well-equipped and well-trained cavalry units are self-made women-at-arms, who pay for their own training, horses and equipment all by themselves with whatever few money they have at their disposal. Their shields and weapons are often second-hand stuff bought cheaply from pawn shops instead of brand new gear, while their armour pieces and chain mails are also repurposed old suits of second-hand armour that were adapted to fit their bodies instead of hand-tailored battle outfits crafted by a proper armoursmith.

Even their warhorses are half-breed steeds instead of purebred stallions, having half blood just like most of the riders themselves. All of that is because those black sheeps are landless low-ranking noblewomen, who carry the surnames of powerfull, rich and influent families, but who have no significant influence, wealth or power of their own.

But despite their highly improvised gear, these brave women-at-arms are excellent warrioresses who excel in courage and sheer determination above all else! They may not have the renown and the wealth of their legitimate older sisters and cousins just yet, but what they lack in inherited reputation, they more than make up to in an ardent eagerness to prove themselves in combat!

That's why the Adlerfurt Lancers are such fierce and ferouscious units! Their cavalry charge is one of the most devastating of all Arandolia, while unlike any other shock cavalry units, they do not fall back after the initial charge is delivered. Instead of retreating and regrouping for another well-placed charge, the Adlerfurt Lancers prefer to stand their grounds amidst the shattered enemy formation and keep on fighting, drawing their heavy maces to strike fierce blows from atop of their high horses. They hold a special grudge against heavily armored opponents, being especially effective at crushing armour and shattering enemy shields.

As such, the Adlerfurt Lancers are some of the most effective units at taking down the enemy highest-ranking units! Shall the need arises, they will also gladly dismount from their warhorses and fight on foot with the very same ferocity, smashing enemy skulls with their bloody maces till renown, fame and glory are finally theirs.

This makes the Adlerfurt Lancers pretty versitile units, able take on almost anything that crosses their path on the battlefield. However, the same ardent eagerness to build up a reputation by proving themselves in combat that makes these women really fierce and ferouscious also makes them perhaps a little bit too eager to show their military worth. Most of the time, they can be simply too obsessed at displaying their inherend greatness. Often even to the point of blatantly ignoring direct orders from their commanders.
