Battlefield Role: Light Infantry
Weapons: A longsword and a shield.
Outfit: A thick padded gambeson, plus plate armour only on the arm, which is the most exposed part of the body in melee combat.
Skill level: Average proficiency in melee combat.
Affiliation: Eckenburg, in the Persephone's Plains
Doctrine: Persephone's Way of the Redeemer
Strengths: Cheap recruitment cost and upkeep. Sheer strength in numbers. Arm armour is effective in melee, shield is effective against ranged units.
Weaknesses: Low-cost investment in training and gear means they are not hard to kill. But that's what the "pawns" are for in chess.
Persephonian Footsoldiers
Footsoldiers mustered from the Southlander peasantry of the Persephonian fields by the Schäferin Ducal House aren't usually the fiercest of enemies you'll face. But what they lack in skill and armour, they make it up in numbers. Their armour, weaponry and training have been simplified to the fullest, rendering them really cheap troops to raise and maintain.

As there is a nearly endless amount of peasants in the Southlands, several regiments of footsoldiers can be mustered in a short notice and with little investment, enabling their commanders to have vast armies at their disposal.
In most cases, these troops are employed to garrison fortifications and enforce the law over the commoner masses from which they themselves come from, though they are very often called in to bolster the bulk of the Persephonian armies at any military campaign, forming the very front lines in any battle as they are rather... disposable.
Their commanders are sure to impose absolute obedience through harsh punishment for any unfollowed orders, so even though they are underpaid and undervalued, they follow orders to the letter out of sheer fear. After all, getting whipped in public to be made an example is no fun at all.
