Battlefield Role: Pike Infantry/Sword Infantry
Weapons: Spear and a Hoplon Shield. A longsword as a sidearm.
Outfit: Corinthian helmet, plate armour pieces over chain mail.
Skill level: Proficiency in close combat. Both with polearms and with swords.
Affiliation: Mylos, in the League of the Athenian City-States.
Doctrine: Athena's Way of the Warrioress
Strengths: Being equally skilled with swords and spears makes the Mylosian Hoplites flexible enough to counter both infantry and cavalry. Their shields also provide good arrow protection.
Weaknesses: Mylos is a separatist state, so their hoplites don't like to fight alongside other Athenian City-States' forces.
Mylosian Hoplites
Mylos has always been famous for their self-sufficiency and for the numerous wheat farms of their countryside. They are a rather rural City-State, and the fertility of their soil attracted a lot of settlers from the other side of Lake Blue. Redhead migrants from the Redlands at that. Highly prolific Leidenschaft Swordmaidens, who bolstered Mylos' military quite a lot as they toiled the soil and earned their citizenship.

Before that, Mylos only had common Hoplites, pretty much like all the other Athenian City-States. But as the Leidenschaft redheads got numerous enough to become a substancial minority, their sword traditions were slowly and steadily incorporated on the local military. This resulted in Hoplites that are able to fight as swordmaidens just as well as with their spears, making their phalanxes much more flexible on the battlefield.

As such, the Mylosian Hoplites carry a Longsword as a sidearm instead of a Kopis Sword. They fight much better than any other Athenian regular soldier when out of formation, while still being highly disciplined and well able to hold a proper spearwall when ordered to do so.
That's why the separatist forces of Mylos won so many battles against the armies of the other Athenian City-States during the last few centuries, making their separation from the Athenian League quite a threat to the authority of Archduchess Athelina Vermentino I. Not that they have anything against the fair Archduchess. The City-State of Mylos just seems to really hate being bossed around. Even when it's for their own good.
