Agonosian Heavy Peltasts

As the most recently settled and the only City-State of the Athenian League with actual access to the sea, Agonos had to reinvent its own military to also serve as a navy. And a strong navy at that, because the murky waters of the Western Arandolian Coast are full of pirates, raiders and plunderers from the accursed Edgelands.

As such, what better units to serve as marines crewing up Agonos' old-fashioned birremes and trirremes than Heavy Peltasts? This well trained skirmishers excel at harassing and pursuing raiders both on land and sea, being armored enough to overwhelm them and yet maintaining enough high mobility to disengage and retreat at the mere sight of the rather common ambushes orchestrated by the treacherous Edgelanders.

Their main job is to keep the coast and the main roads leading further inland safe, as well as to fall back and protect the walls of Agonos shall it fall under siege by the heathens from the South.

Although they might not be great at prolonged fights, all they need to do is to keep the invaders at bay for long enough so  reinforcements from the other City-States of the Athenian League and also from the religious zealots of the Marble Strip arrive, assuring that the most important port of the Western Coast of Arandolia remains active and unobstructed.
