Dragon Slayers

Dragon Slayers are some of the toughest amazons you'll ever find in Arandolia. They hunt down drakes and dragons to make a living at the high peaks of Mount Kaellar, the active volcano at the very epicenter of Copper Island. Those who do not die within the first few weeks of their profession, end up being quite hard to kill at all.

Although their main purpose is centered in hunting down and killing the legendary Dragon of Mount Kaellar, that massive winged fire-breathing beast isn't even proven to actually exist. There are only gossips, tales and vague clues of the dragon's existence scattered across the coasts of Copper Island, for the creature is believed to inhabit the blazing crater of the volcano itself and only leave its fiery nest every once in a while to hunt down stray cattle and feed itself, being witnessed by very few amazon shepherds along the years.

However, the smaller wingless drakes that live all around the volcano's deep cave systems are very real, and also very deadly! They are not flying creatures, but they do live near the liquid lava and breathe fire through their nostrils. Such creatures are wild predators of the size of an adult horse and with the appetite of a lion, devouring anything that comes too near the outskirts of the volcano.

On the other hand, those same wild drakes usually never leave the immediacy of Mount Kaellar, posing no immediate threat for the amazons living around them, as long as they are not disturbed. They seem to be very respectful of people's territories, but at the same time very protective of their own homes and nests.

Any stray cow or sheep to wander about too near the volcano will certainly and naturally be eaten by those overgrown carnivore lizards. And as the local farmers like to let their livestocks roaming free so they can eat the scarce grass of the badlands, conflict always end up emerging between amazons and drakes.

All it takes is a couple of scorched carcasses of devoured cows to drive a farmer to come into the drakes' territory, risking her own neck and attacking the creatures as a retaliation for the lost cattle. The drakes then fight back, and before long you see an all out war amongst the predators and amazon civillians.

Steeds: Copper Island's Bloodbay Stallion

That's when the Dragon Slayers are called in, being handsomely well-paid to slaughter the dragonlings and protect the meagre herds of the amazon farmers near the mountain. Aside from coin, they also get a lot of high-valued bones and scales to sell to the smiths of Copper Island for a nice profit, and all the experience they get from slaying those dangerous beasts also serves them right at their resumés.

No matter how many drakes they kill, there always seem to be more and more coming from the depths of Mount Kaellar. People say that the creatures will never stop breeding until the fabled massive winged Dragon itself is slayed as well, but that's a myth, isn't it? Anyway, as long as more drakes keep showing up, it can only mean more money to the Dragon Slayers's pokets!
