Athenian Amazons
A.K.A.: "The Sisters of Athena"
Homeland: The League of the Athenian City-States
Distinctive Characteristics: Green eyes, dark hair and olive skin are strong traits on these amazons. A strong fitness tradition also encourages them to maintain a toned figure on their bodies.
Cultural Traits: Deep appreciation for arts and knowledge due to undying devotion to the goddess Athena. Preservation of classical Hellenic culture and values. Upholding of Democracy as their local municipal governments. Warmongering relationship among their autonomous City-States.

The Athenian Amazons are believed to be the "purest" among all Amazons, as they are the ones who miscegenated the least with other peoples after the Fall of Themyscira. They do carry a lot of Greek genes and culture, as the amazon civilization was already thoroughly Hellenized at that point, but still they are believed to be the closest thing to the long lost Ancient Themysciran Civilization that is left today.

Those are the amazons tho settled the vast plateau at the mid-western portion of the Arandolian mainland, and they have always been devout worshipers of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom. Thanks to the widespread, deeply rational and open-minded ways of their favored goddess, even the poorest commoners among them became a very conscious and empowered citizenry with strong active voices in local politics, enabling several citywide autonomous Democracies to flourish all over the region. The very opposite of the aristocratic rule of the amazon nobility back in the Eastern shores of Arandolia.

Direct Classical Democracy ended up bringing great prosperity, enlightenment and quality of life to the masses, making every City-State within the region both technologically advanced, economically wealthy and militarily strong.

However, despite being pretty much culturally the same, the Athenian City-States only grew apart as the centuries passed. After all, this kind of Democracy is only viable in a municipal scale, which meant a total lack of a centralized government for the province as a whole, leading to a state of frequent wars as the City-States all grew too big, each with its own interests at heart, inevitably competing for the natural resources surrounding them.

Just like in ancient Greece, long-lasting internal peace has only been achieved after two millennia of endless and meaningless bloodshed, when a foreign power came and conquered all the Amazon City-States of the Athenian Plains, enforcing an autocratic power to rule over all of the region, while still permitting each city to self-govern their own internal affairs through the maintenance of semi-independent Democracies that answer to one appointed Archduchess named by the Queen of all the Amazons.

This was an acceptable compromise for the Athenian Amazons, though isolated wars among their City-States still exist every once in awhile, and more-often-than-not a City-State openly refuses to accept regional laws above their own. Such a long rivalry and love for freedom won't be over anytime too soon, but now that peace and stability is a real possibility for them, the Athenians might eventually unite as a League, working together for their mutual benefit instead of ravaging each other's territories.

It's rather unlikely that a single leader could earn the de facto respect and loyalty of all the Athenian City-States. But if it happens, the sheer combined might and wealth of a truly united Athenian League could very well make it an unchallenged powerhouse within the Arandolian Mainland. A power so strong, that whoever controls it could very well outmatch the power of the Queen of the Amazons herself!
